GREAT LAKES WINTER

The monotonous clatter of rain
Upon the walls of my home
Enters its tenth hour.
Sired by Old Man Winter
Nourished in the womb of Mothers Superior,
Michigan and Huron,
This late autumn storm revives the hope
Of another warm spell
After last week's early taste of snow
And icy north winds.
But soon the winds will shift
From the south
To the northwest.
Again will come the dancing fairy flakes
For December is upon us.
The day wanes further
And the Yule Log longs for its hour..
