Our Fourteenth Year On-Line

Hello Friends and Weather Buffs!

As The Weather Doctor's fourteenth year on-line draws to a close, I realize that I have not updated this page in a number of years, and much has happened in that time. I now feel free to say I am almost retired, though I continue to sell art works and to do freelance writing and teaching.

The Weather Doctor site has continued to enjoy a regular readership and many one-time visitors looking to answer their weather questions over those years since we went online in 1998. I am happy to see that The Weather Doctor has links from sites of all sorts around the world and many are government weather service sites or university sites.

At the time of the last update to this page, I had recently moved out of Victoria, British Columbia going from sea to sky to another BC V community, Valemount. The small town sits within the Rocky Mountain Trench with the Rockies to the east and the Columbia Mountains to the west. I have become well settled here and have been involved in the local arts community, serving as vice-president of the Valemount Arts and Cultural Society and as a director of the Crafters Guild of Valemount. Since arriving, I have spent more time painting — watercolors mostly but also acrylics, oils and pastels. I have also returned to photography, using it as an art form in itself and as a stepping stone for paintings and computer-generated art.

I have placed my favorite pieces in a web gallery Keith C. Heidorn's Art Gallery. I hope you will visit and enjoy my work. Most are available for sale; if you are interested, please drop me an email. A few paintings, along with several of my photographs, are available as note cards, posters, etc. from The Weather Doctor's Nature Gallery at Zazzle.com.

I now have three books published. In 2009, I co-wrote a book with Ian Whiteside that is titled The Field Guide to Natural Phenomena in Canada and the US, and The Field Guide to Natural Wonders in Great Britain and Australia. The book is available in various bookstores and online from Amazon in each nation. For those in North America, you can order it by clicking on the link below.

Since its beginnings, The Weather Doctor has had visitors from all over the world. If you get a chance, drop me an email and let me know where you are from, what you think of the site, and what you would like to see covered. From the mail I have received, many of you are regular visitors and enjoy the site. For a taste of some of the comments from my readership and those who link to my site, go to What They Are Saying About The Weather Doctor.

As always, I invite teachers and parents involved with home schooling to use the materials posted herein as part of your curriculum. I see many links to us from websites aiding the education process, both home schooling and community schools. Those desiring to use any of the material in the classroom may do so with the permission of The Weather Doctor. But please, include the copyright information with any downloading of the information, either to your local computer site or to hardcopy. I give the material freely to educators, but if you can spare a donation to keep this site expanding and alive it will be greatly appreciated.

And kids, I will be happy to answer your questions when I can, but I am not here to do your homework. And remember to include a valid email address. I get several questions a year for which I take the time to answer but are returned as invalid email addresses. So if you sent a question and I did not answer, the reason is likely your email address was not correct (or some other glitch in the email system).

If you are looking for books on weather, check out our Reviews section and visit the Weather Doctor Bookstore where you can order weather and other books, videos, music, etc through Amazon.com or Amazon.ca.

I hope you will come back often and tell your friends. Bookmark our title page and keep informed of the latest additions in the What's New section.

And please, take a moment to visit one of our affiliates and shopping sites. The advertizing revenue from these helps keep the site expenses covered.

Although I may not get around to updating this page often, I am adding new material to The Weather Doctor monthly. (On or before the first day of the month…I take pride in the fact I have only missed one such deadline and that was in the short month of February.) I have already chosen most of the topics for the Weather Almanac through 2012, though current weather news sometimes trumps another topic idea as happened twice in 2011.

My forecast for this site expects it to continue for many years. I have my sights set on making 20 years online at the end of 2017 when I have reached the benchmark year of 70.

May the Rainbow always touch your shoulder,

Keith C. Heidorn, PhD
