Over the past couple years, I have reviewed Kenneth Libbrecht's two books from which The Magic Of Snowflakes: A Postcard Book is an offshoot: The Snowflake: Winter's Secret Beauty and The Little Book Of Snowflakes. I rated both books highly for their beauty and for their science, though descriptive text is minimal in Little Book.
In The Magic Of Snowflakes, Professor Libbrecht's up-close, detailed photographs of these magical creations of nature are complemented by literary quotes and captions on the reverse page. This eye-catching collection contains twenty-two full-colour postcards and the book is intended to be disassembled and the postcards sent.
As such it is a worthwhile purchase to use to keep in touch with family and friends or as holiday greeting cards. The postcards could also be framed singly or as a grouping for a fabulous piece of artwork for your wall. Since the photographs are contained in Libbrecht's other two books, I would recommend the purchase of them if you are interested in a book about snowflakes, but The Magic Of Snowflakes has many other uses, a great meeting of art and science.
